"Orientation for Filipino Newcomers in Atlanta "
The Philippine Consulate at your service:
"The Fil-Am community at large is a tremendous asset for the Philippine Honorary Consulate and the Philippines. Most of the community are sending assistance to their love ones back home which then helps our country in many ways. On our side, we also try to assist as much as we can to the ones in need (Consular matters like authentication, visa requirements and visa adjustments including those that have legal problems and many times, personal problems). I am grateful for the assistance from the volunteer Corps of the Fil-Am community that has assisted us in many ways in the past years. The meeting is a giant step to where we are consolidated in our efforts to help our fellow "kababayans" in sharing our good fortunes to those who are not so lucky. With much appreciation to the organizers and their precious time for their efforts". --- Raoul "Ray" Donato, Honorary Consul General Philippines

Legal Service:
"Immigration status affects our community on a profound level especially since September 11, and the government's implementation of the Department of Homeland Security. I want to stress the importance of finding competent legal advice since the immigration regulations change on a continuous basis. Also, it is important to monitor your status, visa options, and the routes to obtain green card or permanent resident alien status and the requirements for naturalization to become a U.S. Citizen. We also discussed three general tips including the importance of notifying USCIS of any change of address within 10 days, checking your legal documents and immigration paperwork for the correct name to match your Social Security and other government documents and seeking an immigration attorney's advice concerning the affect of any arrest on your status." --- Sarah J. Social Security Service:
"It is important to have a clear understanding of the importance of having a valid Social Security number. You need it to get a job, to collect Social Security benefits and other government services; it is required to apply for a driver's license; and many other businesses such as banks and credit companies ask for your number. To get a number or replacement card, you must prove your US citizenship or immigrations status, age, and identity. If you are not a US citizen, Social Security needs to see your current U.S. Immigration documents."
"Social Security is committed to delivering quality service in a timely and efficient manner. You can conduct your business on line by visiting our website at www.socialsecurity.gov This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week." --- Jane Rolen, Executive Assistant, Social Security Administration Atlanta Regional Office

The Filipino Community in Atlanta, your community, our community---a PARTNERSHIP
Atlanta today, known as the New South and the destination of new immigrants is also home to a growing population of Filipinos.
It is a privilege to welcome our new comers into the community by way of sharing with them important and perhaps key information and resources that will help them adjust into their new community.
There’s a lot we can do to change and to improve the lives of our members in the Filipino Community. Starting with the Newcomer's Orientation, we help one another promote the importance of positive attitude, community building, networking, empowerment, continuing education and still maintain our unique Filipino identity.
It is our mission to assist them in gaining access to health care, social services, legal assistance and other tools to help them achieve success.
We strongly encourage our members to get involved and participate in civic as well as social activities to contribute to a strong and vibrant community. Our community values the spirit of voluntarism. -Toni Daya-Luetgers, AccessPhilippineAtlanta and Galing Foundation, Inc.
